“Holding the beast as if it was her brother, her lover, her reflection. Wrapping her arms around its neck fearlessly. The fervor of someone who has long shed the illusion of difference. When the smiles are too wide, teeth are bared, there is a grotesque ecstacsy, it’s not innocent, not wicked, it’s something far stranger, as if she’s smiling through a scream she forgot to finish. A Face streaked in dirt, the cheeks raw with the heat of exertion or ritual, and yet, radiating joy… a joy too sharp, too manic, like a flame that’s beginning eat its own fuel.
The beast beside her is not tamed, nor is it restrained. The read eyes gleam in recognition and malice. It leans into her with a silent snarl, its mouth slightly parted as if to taste the air she exhales. There is no tension in its posture. No Leash, no threat. The thing she has become by wanting it too much. They belong to each other in a way that defies speech or writing. Not master and beast. Not victm and predator. They are the Same wound split across two bodies. A single howl incarnate in flesh, bone and nerve. In her eyes, there is no caution. No Flicker hesitation. Only the savage intimacy of someone who has let go the need to be human. There is no lesson here, no warning, no redemption. Only a prey in love with the predator that mirrors her soul. And the beast is content to let her pretend it hasn’t already begun to consume her.”
This is that what i felt when i first started playing “As our hearts devour us” from this Polish Monolith called Carrion Sky. As you may already know previously, some members were pillars from Black Tundra, what makes it even tastier. But this one feels darker and heavier (harder to believe, but yes). It’s painful, it’s crawling, it’s deep. And the atmospheres found in “Lost Among Ourselves” recalled me stuff Wolves in the Throne Room did in “Celestite”. Ascending to a Carrion Firmament! Where Galaxies Try to Blend into Rot! A True Carrion Sky. No God, no Aflterlife. Just The pillars of loss staring into the void, as we roam towards to it, ruthlessly.
